Coastal Chic is one of the most soothing design styles today. With soft simple colors, luxury finishes, linen fabrics and distressed woods. Trending to be one of the fastest growing decorating styles, Coastal Chic reaches far inland as more and more of us are incorporating natural materials and fabrics into our home and everyday life.

To bring a coastal chic living look into your home think weathered woods such as natural maples, ash and bamboo. Natural light, soft tones and the breeziness of the beach can all be achieved with a simple color palette, natural fibers and lots of slip covers!

For modern coastal decor, look for natural fiber rugs such as sisal and jute. Let the natural light come in as much as possible. For your the window treatments be minimal with straight lines and solid simple cotton and linen fabrics.

For those high humidity regions shoot for these options on the flooring:

  1. High-Pressure Laminate. Known for its durability and tends to absorb moisture well.

  2. Luxury Vinyl. Vinyl flooring holds up well in high humidity and seasonal changes.

  3. Porcelain Tile. For a floor that absorbs very little moisture.

  4. Engineered Hardwood.Won’t buckle or crack during high humidity seasons.

A rule of thumb for “Chic Coastal” think Hamptons.

For accent colors explore dark accents such as navy and stone to add that elegant and stately style. For textures, Hampton Chic tends to favor dark and polished woods paired with layered neutrals. Think comfy linen furniture and layered neutrals.

Here are a few Do’s and Don’ts while achieving Coastal Chic. Applying a few of these principles to your design plan and you too can have this Hampton feel anywhere you live.

Do:

  1. Make the most of your natural light

  2. Add weathered woods and stones

  3. Design around a color palette

  4. Add a minimum amount of coastal elements but keep it simple

Don’ts:

  1. Use a theme to fill the room

  2. Load up on the seaside floral paintings

  3. Carpet the floors

  4. Overkill on the Shiplap

Think beachy color palettes and don’t over accessorize a theme.
